ABOUT FARMARAMA:

THE Lawrence Lions Club is gearing up for its tenth Southfuels Farmarama, a biennial gathering of anyone and everyone servicing sheep, beef and dairy farmers in the region.

The event has been running for 20 years and usually attracts between 700 and 1000 farmers from Southland to North Otago, Central Otago to the coast.

The show runs in alternate years to the very successful Southern Field Days at Waimumu in Eastern Southland.

The venue is the gymkhana showgrounds at Wetherstons on the outskirts of Lawrence township.

The show starts at midday on Thursday, February 24 and runs all day Friday, February 25 2011.

Farmarama convenor David Robertson said the event had grown steadily in size every year, doubling its turnover in the last six years.

It attracts about 100 exhibitors with millions of dollars worth of equipment on display.

“We’ve tried to keep it simple,” Mr Robertson said.

“Basically, it’s a laid-back farm machinery show that attracts anyone servicing sheep and beef farmers in the region,” he said.

“All the major motor vehicle dealers, tractor and farm machinery suppliers will be there.”

The main farm supply companies, like Clutha Vets, PGG Wrightson, CRT and RD1 will have displays along with ACC, farm insurers and a multitude of other farm services.

The main difference between this show and other farm machinery shows is that most exhibitors are happy for farmers to test drive a car, tractor or motorcycle or arrange a demonstration of a baler, plough or other piece of farm machinery, Mr Robertson said.
